Specialized Services

Tinton Falls Orthopedic and Sports Physical Therapy offers a full range of specialized services that include, but are not limited to, the following:

TMJ Dysfunction Rehabilitation – Pain in the temporomandibular joint which connects your jaw to the temporal bones of your skull can occur following an injury such as a heavy blow or whiplash, or from teeth grinding, arthritis or stress. The pain can be severe and can affect one or both sides of your face. We treat TMJ dysfunctions effectively with a number of therapies including hands-on care, neuromuscular re-education, transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS), laser, and ultrasound, among other therapies.

Breast Cancer Rehabilitation - Physical therapy is effective in relieving pain in the chest and underarm areas associated with breast cancer surgery and/or radiation therapy. We are trained to work in conjunction with your physician to assist patients recovering from any type of breast surgery, including lumpectomy, mastectomy or reconstruction that often brings with it stiffness, formation of scar tissue, limited range of motion and lymphedema, the swelling of soft tissues caused by the buildup of lymph fluid. Physical therapy right after surgery or radiation therapy can be helpful in preventing pain and stiffness that these procedures can cause.

Vestibular Rehabilitation – Vestibular rehabilitation therapy is effective in treating many adults and children with disorders of the vestibular or central balance system, including Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV). About 42 percent of the people in the United States experiences dizziness at some point in their lives and some patients develop permanent balance issues and functional limitations as a result of vestibular disorders. Let us help you –please ask for a consultation with one of our vestibular specialists.

Concussion Rehabilitation – The most common head injury incurred by athletes, concussions are associated with disorientation, amnesia, confusion, headache and sometimes loss of consciousness and even visual disturbance. In the United States, there are an estimated 1.6 million sport-related concussions reported each year. Our physical therapists work with athletes to provide post concussion rehabilitation when they experience signs of forgetfulness, concentration difficulty or behavior changes. Services include detailed screening and assessment, treatment follow-up and evaluation, and therapies to address physical and cognitive deficits. We work closely with your physician for a collaborative approach to your care.

Ergonomic and Workplace Evaluation – Because two out of every three Americans spends their work day in front of a computer, repetitive motions of the upper extremities and sustained postures can lead to such health issues as Carpal Tunnel syndrome, trigger finger and even cervical and lumbar disorders. Desks that are at an improper height and chairs that do not fit the person sitting in them can add up to loss time for workers. At Tinton Falls Orthopedic and Sports Physical Therapy, we can assist you in setting up an ergonomic workplace or home office. Our evaluations include an initial assessment, identification of risk factors, and actionable recommendations.

Neuromuscular Rehabilitation - Neuromuscular Rehabilitation is effective in rejuvenating the neuromuscular functions linking the brain, muscles and nerves. It helps to reconnect damaged nerves, control muscles and reactivate body movements. We assist patients impacted by a variety of neurological conditions including Parkinson’s disease and other movement disorders, stroke, brain injury, cerebral palsy and multiple sclerosis. Our therapy is geared towards improving overall mobility, range of motion, strength, endurance, and functional performance.
